Meeting Places

Ilsley offers 3 meeting areas for groups of different sizes:

The Jessica Swift Meeting Room, our largest meeting space, is located off the children’s area on the lower level, and is accessible after-hours from a separate, rear entrance. This room features a ceiling mounted LCD projector with a sound system, wireless microphones, and wireless Internet access. An A/V cabinet includes a computer workstation, DVD & VHS players, and laptop connections and adapters.  Tables, chairs, easel, and screen are available free of charge.  The room has easy exterior access to the parking lot and a kitchen and two restrooms.   Registration is required for use of the Jessica Swift Meeting Room – If you would like to reserve space, please call the library at (802) 388-4095

Lectures, talks and slideshows in the meeting room are frequently filmed in collaboration with Middlebury Community Television, making them available on local cable channels 15 & 16 as well as on the web: www.middleburycommunitytv.org or https://www.youtube.com/user/IlsleyTV.  Contact MCTV at 388-3062 for more information on filming in the meeting room.

Two smaller conference rooms are available on the second floor.  Each room seats 4 persons comfortably.  Each has a table and chairs, and the door can be closed for quiet discussion.  These rooms are first-come, first-served.

The lobby is available to artists for receptions and may be reserved by other groups after consultation with the library director.

If you would like to reserve space, please call the library at (802) 388-4095.

Youth Media Lab

Our nationally recognized program trains the next generation of film and media makers and consumers. We offer a regular drop-in after-school program once a week, as well as week-long filmmaking camps during school vacations in February, April, and over the summer.  The week-long camps are Intro to Filmmaking, Animation, and Advanced Filmmaking (Special Effects).  Youth Media Lab is intended for students in grades 4+ (10 years old).  Programs are held in the Youth area of the library, and feature collaborative use of 4 iMac computers, 4 iPads, and 4 video cameras.  You can view videos created through Youth Media Lab on our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBZ_cPVWmS4EBiiRDGd9ucA

 Computer Lab

Our 14 workstations (13 PC, 1 Mac) offer high-speed internet access for research, job search, news-gathering or just keeping up with friends through social media in the 21st century.  Six additional workstations (4 Mac, 1 PC) are available in the children’s area. We also offer word-processing, access to databases, scanning and printing.  Workstations are first-come, first served, but 30 minute time limits apply if other patrons are waiting.  Technical assistance is offered on a regular basis, as are small workshops on specific topics.

 Ilsley/Middlebury Community Television collaboration

Ilsley and MCTV have established a collaborative relationship, including shared staff and board representation, in order to best meet the literacy, knowledge, and communication needs of our community.  Not just a third floor tenant, MCTV brings media literacy and civic engagement together in partnership with Ilsley under one roof.  The media labs for youth and adults are one aspect of this collaboration.  Lectures, talks and slideshows in the meeting room are frequently filmed in collaboration with Middlebury Community Television, making them available on local cable channels 15 & 16 as well as on the web: www.middleburycommunitytv.org or https://www.youtube.com/user/IlsleyTV.  Contact MCTV at 388-3062 for more information on filming at Ilsley.

MCTV/Ilsley Digital Media Lab

Ilsley Public Library has partnered with MCTV to provide the Digital Media Lab, a professional-grade media production facility, which is available for use by Ilsley cardholders on the second floor of the building. The purpose of the Digital Media Lab is to support creation of “born-digital” media, such as podcasts or videos; support digitization of analog audio, video, and photographic (print, negative, slide) sources; and enable high speed video conferencing in a private, sound-proofed location. The Digital Media Lab provides patrons with a space to use digital media technologies to support their educational, professional, and personal goals. It is intended as a production space, not consumption space, so while editing video is an appropriate use, watching video should be done in the regular
computer lab.

The lab contains the following equipment and software:
27” iMac computer with additional 32” monitor
Voice microphone
VCR & DVD player with digital video converter
Turntable & cassette deck with digital audio converter
Canon photo/film/slide scanner
Reversible blue/green screen background
Mac OS X v. 10.10 (Yosemite)
OS X apps, including
iMovie
iPhoto
Garageband
Keynote
iTunes
Skype
Audacity (audio editing)
Gimp (photo editing)
Google Sketchup (3d design)
Handbrake (video/dvd conversion)

The Digital Media Lab is available to Ilsley cardholders ages 16 and up. Ilsley cardholders 15 and under must have a parent accompany them in the lab at all times. Users must adhere to the complete Digital Media Lab usage policy. The Digital Media Lab is available for two hours at a time. However, Library patrons may stay for one additional session if there is no demand for the lab at the end of their two hour time slot. Groups of up to 3 people may use the lab. Patrons can reserve the lab up to one week in advance in person at the circulation desk or by telephone at 388-4095.
