Magazines

From Consumer Reports to National Geographic, Ilsley offers range of popular magazines. Current  issues can be found in the lobby of the first floor (youth titles are in the children’s room). Back issues are kept in the Periodical Room on the first floor. We keep back issues for two years and these issues can be checked out for a week.

Online Article Databases

In addition to the magazines to which we subscribe, patrons can access a broad range of magazines online.  If you are searching from home, you will be prompted to enter your library barcode number.  You now have access to a broad range of popular magazines as well as academic journals. If an article is indexed in the Gale database but not available as full text, you can request it through interlibrary loan by filling out our online form, https://www.ilsleypubliclibrary.org/services/request-an-ill/

Newspapers

Ilsley library subscribes to a range of local, state, and national newspapers, including the Addison Independent, Addison Eagle, Rutland Herald, Burlington Free Press, Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times. Depending on the title, we keep back issues of newspapers for a period of 2 or 3 months.

The library also holds a collection of newspapers on microfilm covering Middlebury and Addison County during the 19th and 20th Centuries.

Vermont Digital Newspapers

In addition to newspapers in print and microfilm many early (1836-1923) Vermont newspapers have been digitized by the Vermont Digital Newspaper Project, and are available online through the Library of Congress Chronicling America website.
